Pierced centrally within the image of Seyõisfjörõur (a window within the shadow building) and the mid-line on the reverse (between message and destination), a peephole tunnels through the front and back planes of the postcard. A visionary gateway tool for use between the represented inward scene (postcard front) and the outward beyond (postcard back), which may suggest notions of remote viewing, time-slip within a place or a sense of residual energies trapped in the atmosphere of a location.

When I received this postcard I had a flashback to my early childhood, of being mesmerised by another card that was covered with hypnotic patterns and a small viewing hole within an illustrated eye. This device came with the claim of x-ray vision, enabling its holder to see beyond visible surfaces; I was so convinced of this potential.

Postcards for Seyðisfjörður

Postcards reflect cultural and interactional enactments of contemporary globalisation, the transient mementos of travel. The artist Dieter Roth played an important role in the cultural life of Seyðisfjörður.

H_A_R_D_P_A_I_N_T_I_N_G are asking artists to observe the once common practice of sending a postcard from a place visited. A postcard of itself but altered / adjusted / intervened by artists who may not have travelled to Seyðisfjörður before.
